About

The Curragh Stud aims to celebrate the ultimate performance horse by hosting the Irish Sport Horse Studbook. Based in the rolling farmland of Riverview this historic stud is home to breeding and producing the best showjumpers and eventers.

The Irish Sport Horse must be: "a functionally correct model of balanced proportions that is conducive to high performance at International level in FEI disciplines...The horse should have a good temperament, be rideable, intelligent and willing to perform. Irish Sport Horses should have courage, be careful when jumping and have good technique and scope."

Horses eligible for registration:

-Irish Sport Horses descended from ISH parents already registered.

-Part-bred horses with one ISH parent.

-Registered Irish Draught horses, Thoroughbreds and Anglo-Arabs and their part-bred offspring may be registered provided they have a suitable temperament and have a good competition record.

-Registered Foreign Breeds, eg: Hannovarian, Holsteiner, Selle Francais, Akhal-Teke, Quarter Horse, and their part-bred offspring may be registered provided they have a suitable temperament, high skills and good competition record.

Owners may present horses for approval based on the above specifications. If it is judged that a horse does not meet the requirements for full registration it may be registered as 'Not Approved'. However, the horse and any of its offspring may be upgraded to 'Approved' status when they are re-presented provided they show a consistent competition record and good temperament.

As the registration specifications for the Irish Sport Horse are heavily weighted on performance, entries may be made provisionally and can be subsequently upgraded. Please note that as the Equestrian Manager at Curragh Stud is based in the UK, the official opening will be after the 21st.
